They make guesses - "Big Bang", Axial Precession ~ 25,800 years, etc., etc..
I don't make guesses which is why I managed to fix the problem we had understanding Quantum Mechanics.
It's really not complicated - by understanding complex-numbers (not complicated unless you believe in REAL numbers alone), you understand Quantum Mechanics, General Relativity and therefore everything.
